Stanley/Stella’s HR intranet page, built and hosted on SharePoint, was designed as the primary source of truth for team members across the company. However, the page faced numerous challenges, including failure to address user needs and technical issues that limited its effectiveness. With global offices relying on the platform for critical updates and resources, it became evident that the intranet required a comprehensive redesign to meet expectations.
The intranet, while functional, was not effectively engaging Stanley/Stella employees, especially those spread across different offices worldwide. The platform was difficult to navigate and failed to provide quick access to essential resources or up-to-date information.
Additionally, the page suffered from technical limitations due to poor construction, making it unreliable for regular use. There was also a gap between the platform’s design and the company’s evolving business values, which further reduced its impact on users.
A complete revamp of the intranet's landing page was undertaken with the goal of addressing both the company’s expectations and user needs. The new design was centered on improving accessibility, ensuring alignment with Stanley/Stella's values, and driving engagement among employees.
The project was executed in an iterative, hands-on manner, experimenting with various SharePoint features to explore the platform’s full potential. This approach ensured the final product was not only feasible but also aligned with the expectations of users and the business.
The project began by defining a clear scope, focusing on the key objectives: revamping the intranet’s landing page, making it accessible to global offices, and increasing user engagement. The iterative process involved continuous experimentation with SharePoint's native tools and features to identify the best solutions for real-world application.
Feedback from users played a crucial role in shaping the redesign. Regular consultations during the development process helped identify usability issues and opportunities for improvement. Changes were made based on real-time user interactions, including the reorganisation of links, adjustments to the top navigation menu, and improvements in widget placement for better usability.
Furthermore, clear ownership roles were established to ensure the platform would be maintained effectively. This included assigning responsibilities for managing user access, troubleshooting technical issues, and documenting workflows to ensure long-term sustainability.
The redesigned intranet delivered significant improvements, both in terms of usability and engagement. Employees across Stanley/Stella’s global offices reported easier access to vital resources and timely information. The new layout and functionality encouraged greater interaction with the platform, fulfilling the company’s objective of increasing intranet usage.
Moreover, the collaborative and feedback-driven approach to the project set a precedent for future digital transformations within Stanley/Stella. The success of this project became a model for redesigning internal tools, ensuring that user-centered design and ongoing feedback remain at the core of the company’s digital strategy.
